Kite Show
Swallow-Tailed Kite Greensboro, Alabama
I attended the Black Belt Birding Festival in Greensboro last weekend. It was a wonderful festival and I highly encourage others to attend next year.
One of the highlights of the festival is the Kite Show at Joe Farm. The farmers let the grass grow all year until the end of July, then cut it with a tractor. When they do, it exposes bugs, small mammals and other prey the Kites love. That tractor steadily cutting down the field for hay is kind of a dinner bell for the Kites and they come swarming in, following the tractor for morsels of food.
This weekend I’m in Sierra Vista, Arizona for the Southwest Wings festival. I’ve already got some fantastic photographs. It’s going to be hard to choose one over the others for next week’s bird of the week. Come back next week to see the winner.
