Really, in Alabama?!

Groove-Billed Ani Fort Morgan, Alabama

I first saw a Groove-Billed Ani in Belize. I thought it was pretty interesting with that wrinkled bill that gives the bird a wizened old look and that long tail that looks like it belongs on a colorful exotic bird. And I thought that would probably be the last time I ever saw one. Then one day in Fort Morgan someone saw me photographing birds and told me there was one behind some hedges. I was skeptical but went looking anyways. Sure enough, there it was, a Groove-Billed Ani in Alabama.
