Surprises and Oddities

I was afraid to go down this road.

In the lower 48 we plug in electric cars. In Alaska they plug in gasoline cars to heat the engine and keep it from freezing. Full disclosure: I staged this shot in the summer, but it gets the point across!

Fresh young spruce tips are edible. Moose love them, and apparently people do too. We tried a spruce-tip drink and and discovered that “drinking a tree” is surprisingly tasty.

The town of North Pole really leans into its name.
