Red-Necked Phalarope

The Red-Necked Phalarope sounds like it should be drinking a beer at the beach on the Alabama gulf coast instead of fishing in Alaskan waters.

Interesting Fact: In most bird species, males compete for females. Red-Necked Phalaropes reverse the script. The females are more colorful, compete for mates, and then leave the males to incubate the eggs and raise the chicks.
