Merlin

Homer, Alaska

I wanted to photograph a Merlin for a long time. I never thought I’d get my first one in Alaska. The white snowflakes seem to merge with the Merlin’s white spots.

Interesting Fact: A Merlin is only about the size of a Blue Jay, making it one of the smallest falcons in North America. They often hunt birds nearly their own size and sometimes chase prey through neighborhoods, campgrounds, and parking lots at full speed.
