Horned Grebe

Driving back to my sister’s house one afternoon, not really birding, I noticed a bright splash of color on a pond we were passing. I made a quick U-turn and we found two Horned Grebes comfortably nestled on the water. It took us a moment to figure out what we were looking at. This really looks more like abstract art than a bird.
