Greater Yellowlegs

Homer, Alaska

I’ve seen Greater Yellowlegs before, but I’ve never managed to get a good photograph of one. I finally got two in Alaska, showing off those dramatic yellow legs.

Interesting Fact: Because of their long legs, Greater Yellowlegs are surprisingly agile hunters. They often run through shallow water chasing small fish and aquatic insects rather than standing still and waiting for prey to come to them.
