Bonaparte’s Gull
Homer, Alaska
While birding the shoreline at Anchor Point, I kept getting excited about gulls I’d never seen before, including Short-Billed, Glaucous-Winged and Black-Legged Kittiwakes. When someone call out a Bonaparte’s Gull I barely paid attention because they’re common along the Alabama Gulf Coast. Then I noticed everyone else in the group was excited. That’s when I realized Bonaparte’s Gulls are much less common around Homer than they are back home.
