Western Emerald Colombia, South America

We were just checking into a lodge in Colombia when I heard Alabama Audubon’s Scott Duncan call out, “Western Emerald!” I grabbed my camera and managed to get this photograph just before the hummingbird disappeared. Most of the group missed it—they were still unpacking in their rooms. The encounter lasted only a few seconds, but it was enough to get this gorgeous photograph.
