When I planned my trip to Alaska, I’d heard there were a lot of eagles up there. But I was not prepared for what I saw when I got there. The eagles are everywhere! I saw eagles perched on the shoreline, standing on docks, sitting in trees, circling over the harbor, and even mixed in with gulls on the jetty. In Homer, bald eagles aren’t rare or even special birds. They are simply part of everyday life.
Interesting Fact: The Homer area supports one of the largest concentrations of Bald Eagles in North America. During parts of the year, hundreds can gather around Kachemak Bay where food is abundant.
